paradise bird

dear friends, the last days i finished bloch 8 and 9.but in my opinion the paradise bird was too dominating the quilt ,both in our pattern and in the original quilt,so i reduced the tailfeathers a little bit,and made them in brighter colours, what do you think, i`m glad for answers, hugs, susi

  1. Both blocks are lovely Susi! I am working on block 9 and should have it finished in a couple more days. I'm going with all eighteen feathers, but yours looks perfectly wonderful with less.

  2. As usual your blocks are wonderfully colourful Susi. I am doing the whole bird too, keeping the spirit of the original I think.

  3. are so fast AND artistic! I like your changes to the paradise bird, and the more colorful feathers are really pretty. My 12-year-old daughter and I were poking around the internet, looking for pictures of actual living birds that looked like the birds depicted in this quilt. We decided that the original artist took a lot of liberties with color and form, so why shouldn't we??? (We also stumbled on some pretty funny videos of exotic bird mating dances...WEIRD...but that is a story for another day!!) I would think that your version of the bird of paradise is more balanced, and maybe, if alive, could have actually flown up to the branch he is perched on!

You fruit block is also are almost half way through the blocks! Keep up the good stitching! I feel like a real slow poke compared to you...I am almost through stitching the bride (only my second block).

    In stitches,
    Teresa :o)

  4. Susi, another beautiful blocks. I just love your happy colours. I do like the tails in brighter colours. I am no where near that block yet so, I am sure what I will do - Hugs Natima
