Blocks 7 thru 12

I have all the blocks finished but will show right now blocks 7 through 12. They were fun to work on. I'm already thinking about the quilting. Since this is all hand applique, I'll hand quilt it. I'm wondering have those of you who have finished your quilts, if you outlined the appliques and then quilted between the blocks next to the seam line. Or perhaps the blocks and appliques are so close together that they do not have to be quilted alone the seam lines. What do you think.

  1. Hi Janice, your blocks are BEAUTIFUL! Have fun planning the quilting. The blocks are pretty full and a couple of the leaves lap into other blocks so I outlined all the applique and then quilted all the background as a whole. I did a different background on the borders. Can't wait to see all the blocks together.
    Happy Stitching!

  2. Your blocks look fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
I've completed 10 so far so I'm not thinking of the quilting stage yet.

  5. Those are beautiful I especially love your bird od paradise, that paisley fabric is perfect. I have just finished my last block, and too am thinking about quilting. Then chickened out and am getting it done professionally, by a lady who is a perfectionist and award winner. She has seen the blocks [not sewn together yet] and is thinking how best to quilt the bride.

  6. Hi,

I'm not doing this quilt but would be tempted to do an outline stitch around the blocks and overal grid in either diamonds or crosshatch behind the blocks. Then do some accents to the individual applique like veins on leaves, feathers on birds etc.

I'm sure you will love what you do. Very nice job!

Congrats to you for finishing all of them! I think I only have 9 done, so I have lots more to do plus the borders! Enjoy your hand quilting!

  10. Your blocks are so beautiful...congrats on finishing up! I hand quilted mine...I outline quilted each block and quilted embellishing motifs. I also quilted in the ditch around the skinny sashing that I added and a double piano key motif in the border in addition to outlining and border motifs. After all this time and after it has already been in a couple of quilt shows, I have decided to go back and add some quilting to the background of each block...probably diagonal cross-hatching. I used a very thin batt and thread that exactly matched my background and I just don't think it looks hand quilted enough. It will be fun to spend some more one-on-one time with it! Good luck with whatever you decide.

    In stitches,
    Teresa :o)
