My finished bride ...

Hurrah!  Wahoo!  And all those other exclamations!

My bride is finally done.  I entered it in my local guild quilt show and won first place in the  "applique" category.  And I won the celebrity judge award ... Justice Kauger, who is on  the Oklahoma Supreme Court, chose my quilt over all the others at the show.  That was a wonderful surprise.

I have really enjoyed the journey this quilt has provided for me but I am glad it is done.  My husband's comment when it was completed ... "Are we going to be sleeping under that?"  Of course I told him no ... well .. maybe just one quick nap ... then it's up to hanging on the wall in my bedroom.  There is less direct light in that room and, more importantly, I will get to look at it first thing when I wake and last thing when I go to bed.  How great will that be?!?

Good luck to everyone as they complete this journey!  Lizzie, you can take me off the list since I'm done.

  1. Congratulations on a job well done and your new awards! I wish I could say the same about mine, only have 5 blocks done. I really enjoy having mine out to just 'LOOK' at..so that is a great solution hanging it on bedroom wall to enjoy each day.

  17. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I truely appreciate them. It does make that two years seem worth it in the end.

Texas Jane asked about my quilting ... I machine quilted around each shape as much as possible. then I filled the open spaces with a double paisley design, feathers when the space allowed, and echo quilting when the space was small. I basically chose the filler design elements that i really like and used those to fill up the spaces. I also hand-quilted thru the larger applique pieces ... like around the elephants ears, the table cloth, the bride's skirt, etc to help anchor them down.

That was the one thing the NQA judge noted on my quilting ... not enough in the larger spaces. But I chose to not "quilt-the-heck-out-of-it" in every space so figured I might get dinged there.

    Hope that helps Jane.

Everyone ... keep working! And have fun!!
