Finished.

My bride is all finished, and on her way home from an exhibition, no prizes, but she created a lot of interest. I will probably keep her for my young grandaughter to have when she grows up. It has been a wonderful journey and I look forward to starting another challenge, yet to be decided!!

Civil War Bride Quilt Winner

I finished my Civil War Bride Quilt and entered it in the Arizona Quilt Guild Show in March. It won a second place ribbon and a major award for explemarly hand quilting. I am so proud. It also appraised for $6,000.00. It was fun doing but glad it's done.

My third block

Here is my third block :
The main difficulties of this block was :
- to choose the dress fabric;
- to find the fabric to figure the skin;
- to choose the color of the flowers (finally I chose my preferred color : the orange!!)
I began the 4th one and as many of you, I will make it upside down with the bird coming from the bottom.

Just starting

Thanks for having me in! I want to introduce myself shortly. I am Joke (short for Johanna), living in the Netherlands and I am about to do my first block of the Civil War Bride quilt. As almost everyone starts with block one, I decided to start with the one that intrigues me the most: block 18, the oistriches. I am not planning to make them like they are in nature, but to choose my own colours. Here is the first bird, not yet appliqued on the background.

SPRINGTIME

My quilt is finished and is proudly hanging on the wall. I want to thank all of you brides for sharing our love for this Civil War Bride. Through this blog I learned a lot, got some good suggestions, learned to appreciate every colourway there is.
I have met Lorene and we became friends now we started on a new project, her CWB is ready for quilting, go Lorene..
So I am signing off, giving a new bride the opportunity to share, keep on quilting..

My latest block...

Poster-sized Bride...

Hi everyone,

guess what: me and my Civil War Bride in progress were professionally photographed for a university project. Here's the result:
What do you think? Personally, I would have preferred a strong dose of photoshopping away multiple chins, but alsas, the bride is featured very well, I think....

Greetings from the Rhine,
